I just wanted to add that I’m not belittling what people who were directly affected by the events of that day went through. I just don’t understand the “let’s forget it ever happened” or “you people in Iowa should just shut up” attitudes.

Thank you for sharing your story Rob. For some reason I decided to punish myself and went over to the Zuzu post and read some of the comments. I’m still amazed at the leftist attitude that people outside of New York or people who didn’t lose anyone that day should just shut up about 9/11. They act like it wasn’t an actual act of war (albeit in the cowardly terrorist sense) against the entire nation.

Always On Watch,

I still remember 9/11. I still remember how I was woke up earlier by my family and told turn the TV on, and how shocked I was to hear that an Air plane had hit one of the twin towers. I remember how shocked I was to hear that another plane hit the other tower. Than I was shocked to hear about one hitting the pentagon, and finally about the heroic, but still tragic flight 93, the only plane where the passengers tried to fight back, because they knew what would happen if the did not. It was a shocking day, for us all.

Yes.

My experience on 9/11 was not nearly as personal as what is posted here. Nonetheless, I can’t get the images out of my mind.

Nice commentary. I will never forget the tragedy of that day. 9/11 is something horrible, but its something we should never forget, much like Pearl Harbor. Only in some ways, 9/11 was worse.

I will never forget turning on the radio that day and hearing the very first words, I kid you not. The radio broadcaster said, “The World Trade Center is no more.” I had gotten up late that day and just arrived at work and was listening to my CD player when my boss came running up (he rode in on a bike and unlocked the door for us to go in) and he said “Did you hear, did you hear???” I exclaimed “What?!?” And he climbed into the car and we turned on the radio. That was the first thing I heard, and I was incredulous.

I have since taken a very moving trip to New York City in February of 2008 that was a spiritual pilgrimage. I was personally going through a lot of emotional stuff in 2001 already so, while the full impact wasn’t lost on me, I didn’t fully appreciate it as I should have back then. When the 5-year anniversary rolled around, I was ripe for being impacted. So I planned a trip, and in February of 2008 I visited Ground Zero for the first time. It was absolutely moving. I since came back and made a very moving fundraiser DVD commemmorating my trip as well as the impact of it all through dramatic footage collected together. I will never forget 9/11, our generation’s Pearl Harbor.

I’m also writing a song for my new album, entitled “Captive.” The song is a tribute for the 343 firefighters, and is called “Whisper.” It’s haunting, stirring, and honoring. I can’t wait to release it!
