Famine in Mexico Poses Security Threat to United States

The drought that has been plaguing American ranchers and farmers has been doubly hard on Mexican agriculture. Mexican border states are already experiencing food shortages which could further destabilize the already lawless region:

MEXICO CITY – Some 2.5 million people are at risk of going hungry due to the severe drought plaguing more than half of Mexico’s 32 states, a leading expert said Thursday.

“Fifty percent of the municipalities are affected and it’s estimated that 1.4 million hectares (3.5 million acres) of crops suffered,” said Emilio Romero, a scholar with the Economic Research Institute at the National Autonomous University of Mexico.

The shortage of rain has already led to the loss of 3.2 million tons of maize, 600,000 tons of beans and 60,000 head of cattle, he noted.

Without measures to counteract the agricultural losses, “this population runs the risk of suffering hunger,” Romero said, calling it “paradoxical” that the government delayed so long in tapping some of Mexico’s $147 billion in international reserves to address the problems caused by the drought.

President Felipe Calderon announced this week the appropriation of 33.83 billion pesos ($2.5 billion) for drought relief.

One of the hardest-hit states is Chihuahua, which borders Texas and is home to around 100,000 Raramuri Indians living in mountain settlements that have been particularly affected by food shortages.

Food shortages so close to the border may lead to refugees attempting to cross over illegally just to get something to eat … and finding that American food security is an illusion.

The drought is bad enough that it’s cutting into the cartels marijuana business:

The number of illegal marijuana plantations in Northern Mexico has “declined considerably” over the last few months, told a Mexican army commander to the Associated Press on Tuesday, as a devastating drought continues to wreck havoc on the country’s water supply to both its population and cropland.

“We can see a lot less (marijuana plantations) than in other years,” said General Pedro Gurrola, commander of armed forces in the state of Sinaloa. With water supply scarce, many marijuana crops have also dried up, added General Gurrola, whose forces conducts regular surveillance flights across the country to seek out any illicit drug plantations.

To make up the shortfall the cartels are making and moving more meth. This is a good lesson in cartel economics for people who thinking legalizing one or more of the products the cartels deal in will destroy them. They will always find ways to make money.

The already chaotic border region doesn’t need food shortages to add to the chaos. Border state residents should be prepared for an influx of hungry, desperate illegal aliens in the near future, and an increase in meth sales and human trafficking as cartels look to make up the shortfalls caused by a bad crop season.

Iranian President Calls for ‘New World Order”

Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called for a new world order of justice-seeking nations, to replace the existing Western-dominated liberal status quo.

President Ahmadinejad made the remarks at the inauguration ceremony of the 2nd International Conference on Hollywoodism and Cinema in Tehran on Thursday.

The Iranian chief executive stated that the world’s dominant powers deliberately bully the smaller nations, who are not in conflict with one another, thereby creating artificial problems between them.

President Ahmadinejad also pointed out that this new world order needs to be all-inclusive, and not be dominated by any particular single nation.

At least 48 foreign scholars from France, the US, Canada, Belgium, Greece, Spain, Tunisia, Italy, Egypt, Russia, Lebanon, Azerbaijan, Palestine and the UK are taking part in the conference.

The conference is, unsurprisingly, a anti-Semitic conspiracy conference based on the idea that Hollywood is an arm of the Zionist military industrial complex. Via Elder of Ziyon here’s a description of the conference from the Terhan Times:

TEHRAN – Organizers of the 30th Fajr International Film Festival will be holding the second conference on “Hollywoodism and Cinema” to review the influence of the Zionist regime on Hollywood.

Over 40 foreign experts and cinema critics are invited to attend the second edition of the conference running from February 2 to 4, Culture Ministry official Gholamreza Montazemi said in a press conference held here on Monday. The names of the guests will be announced later.

The Foreign guests invited to the conference, which is being held on the sidelines of Fajr festival, are due to discuss the impact of Hollywood in the world of cinema and how to resist this impact, Montazemi added.

Cinema of Hollywood is trying to promote the idea of conciliation between Satan and man, this is while Iranian cinema is the cinema of awakening, he said at the conference.

“This conference is trying to tell Iranian cineastes and cinematic experts that cinema is related to the events happening around us and what we are actually living with.

“Western experts are criticizing the influence of the Zionists on Hollywood. Iran has been acting as the source of this inspiration and has shown resistance against this system, and we can see this among the American and European experts as well,” Montazemi added.

Iranian experts are asked to attend this conference to exchange views with the foreign participants, he said.

He continued that several topics are to be discussed at the conference including the world awakening, the influence of Hollywood on public opinion, the destruction of family and humane values, and how to fight against this influence.

A seminar on Islamic Awakening is also to be held on the sideline, in which experts are to discuss the issue of Islamic Awakening.

Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s sister-in-law Lauren Booth, who has converted into Islam, is expected to attend the Islamic Awakening seminar.

So the “new world order” Iran wants would be … a caliphate? But hey, that’s just Hollywood propaganda, right Paulnuts? We’re making the Iranians call for the destruction of Hollywood and a global “Islamic awakening” as part of an anti-Muslim conspiracy.

 

USA300: The “Superbug” Sprea Through Sneezes and Coughs

Take this one with several hundred grains of salt because the information is coming from the same part of the world that recently announced they didn’t think there was enough evidence to prove that water cured dehydration. To be fair England has a lot of good people trapped there, but their government is crazed. Still, something to watch:

The bacteria are more virulent than the infamous hospital MRSA, can affect otherwise healthy people and are spreading across Britain.

They can be transmitted through skin-to-skin contact and hugging as well as sneezing and coughing.

One strain, called USA300, can lead to blood poisoning or a form of pneumonia that eats away at lung tissue.

The bacteria are usually resistant to several types of antibiotics and can cause large boils on the skin.

Chris Williams, professor of molecular genetics at the University of Birmingham, said: ‘It breaks down tissue. If it gets into your heart, bacteria can get into your bloodstream and take hold of different parts of your body. That could lead to death quite easily.’

The dangers of the ‘community- acquired’ superbugs are raised in a new study, examining the way they spread. Researcher Dr Ruth Massey said USA300 was ‘causing huge problems in America and is being reported here increasingly’.

She added: ‘These community- acquired strains seem to be good at affecting healthy people – they seem to be much better than the hospital ones at causing disease.’

Dr Massey said there were 1,000 cases of so-called PVL-positive community-acquired MRSA in England in the last year, of which 200 were USA300 strains.

Prof Williams added: ‘If you’re on a crowded tube or bus and you sneeze you can spread the bacteria.

‘But your sneeze can also land on a metal surface and when someone else gets up from their seat and steadies themselves on the hand rail they can catch it.’

Again, grain of salt. The article presupposes that America is virtually under siege by this superbug but I’ve never heard of it. If you’re worried about MRSA though studies have shown that both green tea and honey have been successful in treatments.
