Another Fish Die Off in Australia

At least this one has an explanation. From the Australian Broadcasting Company:

Dozens of oceanic sunfish have been found dead on Goode Beach and at Frenchman’s Bay.

The sunfish is native to tropical and temperate waters.

The department’s senior research scientist Dr Kim Smith says a strong current is dragging large numbers of sunfish to cooler, southern waters.

“This time of year is associated with the Leeuwin Current flowing across the South Coast at its strongest,” she said.

“It’s that warm water current and it brings these fish down, this year we have a really strong Leeuwin current and there’s a lot washing up.”

Dr Smith says hundreds of sunfish washed up on the South Coast in 2008 due to the current.

“It’s possible that this event might be a bigger one, in terms of more fish washing up than the 2008 event,” she said.

Anti-Semites Disrupt Services at Texas Church Over Christian Support for Israel

Via The Blaze supporters of Hamas and Fatah disrupt John Hagee’s annual support for Israel service. This is the kind of disrespect for any religion (aside from Islam I assume) the American left has been taught. They could have protested outside like people with class would have done: Meanwhile, the people they are supporting are calling for the complete extermination of Jews and “Palestine” as the center of a WORLDWIDE Caliphate that would rule over us all: Once their precious Palestinians start a second holocaust and the re-established caliphate makes war on the world I wonder how these people will react. Joy I’m betting. Any bets on whether or not they’d kill you for “the cause” of the Islamists if given the chance?

Mysterious Hemorrhagic Syndrome Leads to Leopard Shark Die Off in California

From Discovery News:

Dozens of leopard sharks have been washing up dead in California since April, and now a necropsy shows at least one of the sharks died of massive internal bleeding, such that blood was even coming out of the shark’s skin, according to a Daily News report.

The necropsy, conducted by the California Department of Fish and Game, uncovered “inflammation, bleeding and lesions in the brain, and hemorrhaging from the skin near vents.” According to the Daily News story, bleeding was additionally detected around the tested female’s other internal organs.

The results suggest the 50 sharks that have washed up dead at Redwood Shores in Redwood City, California, since April must have died a slow and agonizing death.

Catherine Greer, a resident of the city, said she and her son tried to save some of the sharks by returning them to the water, but “they’d swim right back, thrashing their heads against the shore … as if they were trying to commit suicide.”

Some people have been saying this syndrome seems similar to what’s been killing blackbirds. I don’t know enough to male a judgement but it does seem as if we’re seeing an acceleration of die-offs. A disease of some type effecting these various species and not humans seems unlikely.

Wholesale Prices Up Due to Costlier Commodities

From the Associated Press:

WASHINGTON (AP) — Companies paid more for raw materials and factory goods in April, mostly because energy prices jumped for the seventh straight month.

The Producer Price Index, which measures price changes before they reach the consumer, rose 0.8 percent last month, the Labor Department said. That’s slightly above the 0.7 percent gain in March. Excluding the volatile food and energy categories, the core index increased 0.3 percent, the same as in the previous month.

Over the past 12 months, the index has increased 6.8 percent, the biggest gain in nearly three years. Outside of food and energy, prices rose 2.1 percent, up from a 1.9 percent gain in March.

Turmoil in the Middle East and rising demand from fast-growing developing countries have pushed up the price of oil and gas since last summer. The costs of corn, wheat, cotton and other commodities have also jumped due to strong global demand. That’s raised worries among some economists that consumer prices could also jump and inflation could surge.

The AP goes on to claim that this is a “temporary spike” but only an in the tank media could look at the dollar printing, growing foreign markets and horrible crop yields and think that we’ll only see a temporary spike in inflation.

Greece Exiting the Eurozone?

Der Spiegel says the Greeks are considering exiting the Eurozone – which would in essence be telling the Germans who spent so much bailing them out to go f themselves. I assume that if this is true they plan on allying themselves closer to a the Muslim Brotherhood allied Turkey, Egypt etc. Make no mistake, this has the makings of another European war:

Greece’s economic problems are massive, with protests against the government being held almost daily. Now Prime Minister George Papandreou apparently feels he has no other option: SPIEGEL ONLINE has obtained information from German government sources knowledgeable of the situation in Athens indicating that Papandreou’s government is considering abandoning the euro and reintroducing its own currency.

Alarmed by Athens’ intentions, the European Commission has called a crisis meeting in Luxembourg on Friday night. The meeting is taking place at Château de Senningen, a site used by the Luxembourg government for official meetings. In addition to Greece’s possible exit from the currency union, a speedy restructuring of the country’s debt also features on the agenda. One year after the Greek crisis broke out, the development represents a potentially existential turning point for the European monetary union — regardless which variant is ultimately decided upon for dealing with Greece’s massive troubles.

Given the tense situation, the meeting in Luxembourg has been declared highly confidential, with only the euro-zone finance ministers and senior staff members permitted to attend. Finance Minister Wolfgang Schäuble of Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservative Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Jörg Asmussen, an influential state secretary in the Finance Ministry, are attending on Germany’s behalf.

Sources told SPIEGEL ONLINE that Schäuble intends to seek to prevent Greece from leaving the euro zone if at all possible. He will take with him to the meeting in Luxembourg an internal paper prepared by the experts at his ministry warning of the possible dire consequences if Athens were to drop the euro.

“It would lead to a considerable devaluation of the new (Greek) domestic currency against the euro,” the paper states. According to German Finance Ministry estimates, the currency could lose as much as 50 percent of its value, leading to a drastic increase in Greek national debt. Schäuble’s staff have calculated that Greece’s national deficit would rise to 200 percent of gross domestic product after such a devaluation. “A debt restructuring would be inevitable,” his experts warn in the paper. In other words: Greece would go bankrupt.

It remains unclear whether it would even be legally possible for Greece to depart from the euro zone. Legal experts believe it would also be necessary for the country to split from the European Union entirely in order to abandon the common currency. At the same time, it is questionable whether other members of the currency union would actually refuse to accept a unilateral exit from the euro zone by the government in Athens.

Greeks are rioting now over where garbage dumps are being built – I imagine that the European Union telling them they can’t leave the currency will only direct Greek rage outward.

Greece is denying this story, which they say is art of some sort of speculator conspiracy. But Der Spiegel says their source is the German government, who if anything would want Greece to stay solvent. I guess we’ll find out soon enough,
