I knew the gangs were spreading to all the major cities but the gang related murder of stoner/skater John “Bobby” Surles surprised me:
Zachary Carr, 18, of Bangor was charged with Surles’ murder on Friday afternoon after turning himself in to police.
Police said a fight involved six to 12 teenagers or young adults in the street near Carr’s home on Cumberland.
“During the confrontation, they had one boy on the ground with a gun pointed at him,†Mary Ann Suddy said. “Someone said, ‘There’s Bobby’ and [the shooter] turned and pointed the gun at John and shot him.â€
As the gunman turned his attention and weapon toward Surles, according to Mary Ann Suddy’s account, Surles yelled at his friend on the ground — “Run Will run†— before the gun went off.

The Suddys said they believe a local gang is behind their son’s death.
“There is a gang in Bangor that calls themselves ‘The Bloods,’†Allen Suddy said.
Police also have heard that a local gang is involved, police Sgt. Paul Edwards said on Friday. He added that “we cannot verify any ‘gang’ activity.â€
But Mary Ann Suddy said “The Bloods†is a group of young people who hang together wearing red bandanas and “who carry guns.â€
“This was a planned thing,†she said concerning Wednesday’s shooting. Someone from the gang “called and told him to meet them somewhere.â€
Their son was afraid of the gang, she said, but he wouldn’t back away from a fight.
Sounds like there’s more than one gang in Bangor. Surles was a high school drop out who posted pics of himself getting high on MySpace, other kids looked to for protection and was known as a tough guy. That makes it sound like Surles ran a crew who were taking up territory the “Bloods” wanted. But these aren’t your fathers Bloods apparently. The Bloods are a Blacks only gang as far as I know. On the other hand Bloods have no formal national organization and are known to work with other gangs in the drug trade when convenient. White Bloods in Maine may simply be a regional anomaly caused by local environment. There may simply not be enough Blacks in Maine to support a gang having a Blacks only policy.
There are White “folk nation” gangs that are affiliated with the Crips but the Blood sets are by and large racist organizations (and I’m speaking from experience here having grown up in East Orange which is Blood territory). It could be that this is a bunch of thugs who can call themselves Bloods because they won’t run in to any legit sets in Maine. Though that seems unlikely since their have been suspected Blood members arrested just recently in the area.
Is it possible The Bloods have opened up membership to all races? Maybe. But what’s all too apparent is that Bangor has a gang problem and it doesn’t matter if it is connected to the national gang scene or not. At least it doesn’t to the family of Bobby Surles.
Are you retarded? Do a little more research on sets of the Bloods. One more thing, screw you for referring to John as a stoner skater and pot smoking high school dropout. He was a person, and probably a better person than you. If more parents taught children about judgment and hard knocks, then the lost kids would have more positive guidance, all your STUPID article does is reinforce intolerance and make it sound like it was ok for his life to be ended at just 19. Nothing I wrote claimed it was acceptable to kill that guy. It pointed out that there was a real possibility that the crews (pre-gangs if you will) that are indigenous to most towns are, if there are Bloods moving in, going to be pushed out violently with Surles being the first.

Wha’ts happening in bangor with these “gangs” and is happening in other cities, and towns across the country, is the emergence of “hybrid gangs”. New youth gangs are formed almost daily throughout the country, and yes, even in maine.
Although many of these gangs call themselves the same names of the older, traditional gangs, they are in no way, representative of the original gang. These gangs are known as hybrid or copycat gangs.
These predecessor gang may have been formed along race, ethnicity and cultural lines, the hybrid gang is usually a mixture of races and ethnicities. The rules and guidelines are based on the creator/ leader of the hybrid gang.
A scary fact is that traditional gang members in sets from bigger cities have been migrating into maine more frequently in the past decade. This is due to expansion of drug territory, or other personal reasons for moving to this area. These more traditional gang members start up sets where they move and might call themselves their traditional gang name, but have different rules and regulations compared to the traditional gang.
Maine is a very important stop in the drug trade routes from Canada. People will do whatever it takes to secure those routes and continue to profit from the drug trade.
The Bloods is a black only gang? Yeah right. Maybe like in the 70’s but nowadays all white people in the ghetto have become “wiggers”. Its not like the 70’s when ghetto white people could be wiseguys or punk rockers. They don’t have that freedom any more, if you live in the ghetto NOWADAYS fitting in is a matter of SURVIVAL, and to fit in you have to adapt to one culture and one culture only, and that culture is the “gangsta” culture which leads to many whites joining with the Bloods.
On the other hand, many sets of Bloods that don’t have white members will claim that “there are no white Bloods”. But that’s just them trying to talk tough against white people, as soon as they meet up with one of these wiggers and as long as he pays his dues and gets “jumped in” proper, then he’s one of them.
Try doing some research on the street and not from a college textbook, or better yet, use BOTH of those sources. And then find a third source. Open your eyes and your mind. Richard Crackers was right on spot with what he said here.
Like Biker gangs all Blood gangs have rules about what races can join. White “gangstas'” are in the Folk Nation or sometimes there are Latino gangs that allow Whites in, especially Spanish speaking Whites (the Latin Kings have a few White members for example) but just as there are no Black Hell’s Angels there are no White Bloods.
Folk Nation affiliated White gangs have working relationships with Black Folk Nation gangs, but the Bloods have never let non-Blacks in.
What you’re talking about is a theory about White kids being friendly with Blood members, which may or may not be possible. You’re also taking the word for it from some punk who popped off at you that he’s a Blood. He’s not.

Bloods are absolutely not all black. I’m speaking with personal experience. Every set of the Crips and Bloods is different, and it all truly depends on the area. A lot of Bloods and Crips have little to no white members simply because their neighborhoods are majority black, not due to a racist rule.
As an example; in Denver CO, one of the biggest Blood gangs; the Crenshaw Mafia (legit branch from the ones in Inglewood, California) has membership of black, hispanic, and white.
You’re a liar. I’ve lived in Blood territory. Crips are indeed multi-ethnic (though most don’t accept Whites) but Bloods are a Blacks only gang allied with the Black Guerrilla Movement in the prisons which teaches Black Supremacist ideology as well as Marxism.
Many Whites coming out of prison were bitches for Bloods and represent themselves as having a deeper connection than just paying tribute. There are also crews who pay money into the system thinking they are “down” but they aren’t.

I am curious to know more about this. I always thought that the bloods let all races in. Like I knew a guy who”claimed” he was a blood and ya he had a black friend who was a blood, even had a tear drop on his cheek just below his eye says he killed someone and that that was a symbol for that, BUT was he acutually a blood? That kinda scares me since my boyfriend and I lived with this guy people were always comeing in and out of his apartment. The Bloods are predominantly a racist organization with a national structure that sets the rules, and alliances (through prison) with radical Black groups. It’s possible that some Blood set somewhere may have had White associates but an all White Bloods gang is bull.
Crips are multi-racial in that there are all races of Crip and Crip affiliated gangs (the Folk Nation) but each individual set will usually consist of one race.
The collapse of White gangs like the Gaylords and Royals left White prisoners with little choice in prison but to join Aryan gangs, but the Aryans won’t accept many and many won’t join them. Black gangs take advantage of this by letting White prisoners be “down” as long as they pay “taxes” which may be money or gifts but is often sex. I might suggest your friend was someone’s bitch in prison and those relationships often continue outside.
