Robert Lindsay, an Islamist-supporting, self-described Communist who hates Jews and Red Alerts, has some trouble with the “Cognitive Dissonance” he sees with Sunni Fundamentalism. The question: how can someone as “liberal” as Osama bin Laden support the Taliban? He goes on to list some “facts” about Sunni societies gleaned from an unattributed newspaper article. Facts like:
1) Women from Afghanistan masturbate in public frequently, making men blithe about womens sexuality which leads to homosexuality.
2) Gays executed in Islamic countries were all actually pedophiles.
3) Lesbianism is an epidemic in Saudi Arabian girls’ schools.
Well, he makes more points which may or may not support Muslim oppression of women or gays though it’s honestly hard to discern exactly what his point is, but it’s safe to say that his vision of what life is like in the Middle East is, er, skewed to say the least. Best anti-gay rights quote I’ve ever read:
“Anti-Saudi propagandists and gay rights activists made a big deal about the executions of some gay men in Arabia recently. The news stories never let it out that these men had more or less raped young boys, around age 12 or so. For this, they were executed, not for being gay.
And these same folks made a big fuss over some Saudi gay men who had a wild party in a fancy hotel to celebrate one man marrying another. The party was raided and the attendees sentenced to some lashes. That’s terrible, but it’s not exactly persecution of gays, since homosexuality is rife in the Kingdom.”
Hmmm. So while whipping a gay guy for being gay may be “terrible” it doesn’t really rise to the level of actual persecution because you read in an unnamed article that most Arab men are secretly gay?
Here’s the misogyny that my headline’s based on. Remember, Lindsay hasn’t provided any attribution for this bizarre slander on Afghani women, a slander used to justify their continued oppression by Muslims:
“According to the article, Afghan men regard Afghan women as sexually out of control. Hence, they are apathetic to various displays of female sexuality. In particular, Afghan women, according to the article, often masturbate, fully clothed, in homes, even in the presence of others.
Afghan men see this and just shrug their heads and figure that these women are just sexually overcharged and this is natural behavior for them. They will even ignore such behavior as it occurs right in front of them.”
O.K., I’m not a professional journalist but I say when you make some outrageous claim, like that it is common to walk into an Afghani home and find the lady of the house masturbating on the living room floor, in full view of every one and their male relatives blithely passing tea over the writhing moaning woman, it’s time for an attribution. A footnote perhaps? Couldn’t he at least tell us what newspaper he thought he saw it in?
Oh and rejoice men, according to Lindsay you can have multiple wives and still be a “liberated fellow,” you know, like that nice Osama bin Laden:
“Hardly anyone is aware of this, but two of Osama bin Laden’s wives have PhD’s and were former university professors. I believe they got their PhD’s in Saudi Arabia. One has a doctorate in Arabic grammar and the other, I believe, in early childhood studies. One seems to have left him (I believe that two of his wives have left him) but the other one is thought to be still with him in Afghanistan/Pakistan.
He seems like an awfully liberated fellow, does he not? “
The “two of” there of course is a reference to the fact that Osama had multiple wives, at the same time. Not to mention African sex slaves. So marrying multiple women, who are not allowed to initiate divorce, while raping women on the side, are to Lindsay the hallmarks of being a “liberated fellow.” One who shouldn’t be supporting the very gay Taliban and their hyper sexual harlots who spend most of the day masturbating or having sex with each other. Bin Laden must be experiencing “Cognitive Dissonance” Lindsay says.
