Al-Qaeda Set to Strike France

Via Expatica:

DUBAI, May 15, 2007 (AFP) – An Al-Qaeda front group in Europe threatened on Tuesday to launch bloody attacks in France in response to the election of “crusader and Zionist” Nicolas Sarkozy as president.

“As you have chosen the crusader and Zionist Sarkozy as a leader … we in the Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades warn you that the coming days will see a bloody jihadist campaign … in the capital of Sarkozy,” the group’s “Europe division” said in an Internet statement addressed to the French people.

The campaign will be “against all those who allow themselves to follow the policy” of the US administration, said the statement whose authenticity could not verified.

The Abu Hafs al-Masri Brigades takes its name from an Al-Qaeda commander killed during the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in October 2001.

The group previously claimed responsibility for the July 2005 terror attacks in London, as well those in Madrid in March 2004 and in Istanbul in November 2003.

Just after the London bombings, the group warned European nations to pull their troops out of Iraq within a month or face more attacks like them.

I typed the “Zionist” above in bold because it’s important for Americans to note that there are few American politicians, left or right, who don’t fit the Islamist definition of a Zionist. Anyone who thinks Israel has a right to exist, that Jews aren’t part of a world wide cabal and that the holocaust was a real, historical event is basically a Zionist to these people. Zionist, to the Islamist, is just a media friendly way to say “dirty Jew.”

After our ’08 elections, no matter who wins, what are the chances we get a similar message?

Chavez Nationalizes Global Warming!

China Confidential reports on communist dictator Hugo Chavez’s new propaganda campaign aimed at convincing the world that research into biodiesels and other alternative fuels is a capitalist plot to hurt the workers and destroy the environment.

Venezuela’s leftwing, populist dictator, Hugo Chavez, has personally approved funding for a covert propaganda campaign against alternative fuels, including ethanol and bodiesel. The money will be diverted from Venezuela’s oil revenues; and there is reason to believe Chavez may have sought financial support for the project from Iran, after successfully persuading Cuba’s Communist dictator, Fidel Castro, to condemn biofuels as “capitalist genocide.”

With or without Teheran’s aid, the Crackpot of Caracas aims to discredit the biofuels industry by subsidizing the production and placement of a series of negative articles, essays and TV programs promoting claims that it robs the poor of productive agricultural land, drives up the price of food for humans and animals alike and actually consumes more energy than it produces.

The best part of the whole story is that Chavez is demanding that biodiesal be referred to as “deforestation diesel” from now on. If this move doesn’t start to drive a wedge between Chavez and the hippies on the left, nothing will.

The Devil’s Excrement has a list of other actions Chavez’s government is taking that should worry any supporter of civil liberties. This would theoretically include Democrats, but I’m not holding out any hope.

Oh Snap! Fred Thompson’s Response to Comrade Moore

Michael Moore challenged Fred Thompson to a “debate” about how much America sucks, or whether or not Cuban cigars should be smoked by rich guys or something. Moore’s never one to make coherent points. Many saw this as yet another cheap ploy by a “master publicity whore” to drum up buzz for his new movie, while others saw an ambush in the making.

The chips were down and Fred was on the defensive, but he came out swinging.

Thompson makes a great point, that Moore is unmoved by the suffering of his fellow “truth seekers” at the hands of the communist regime he loves so much. Moore never mentions the oppression of dissidents in Cuba, even though the information about them is widely available on-line.

Perhaps Moore and company should spend less time reading Marx and more time reading blogs like Babalu blog, Uncommon Sense and La Contra Revolucion before he cast aspersions on the character of men like Fred Thompson who support freedom for Cuba, an island that hasn’t had an election since before I was born.

Uncommon Sense has more information on the political prisoner Thompson mentions.
