Produce Shipments Targeted for Theft by Criminal Gangs

A few years ago if I told you criminal gangs were targeting food delivery trucks rather than electronics you’d have laughed. But spikes in food prices are no laughing matter and a side effect of this looming shortage is that criminal gangs able to make as much money knocking over tomato trucks as televisions:

Late last month, a gang of thieves stole six tractor-trailer loads of tomatoes and a truck full of cucumbers from Florida growers. They also stole a truckload of frozen meat. The total value of the illegal haul: about $300,000.

The thieves disappeared with the shipments just after the price of Florida tomatoes skyrocketed after freezes that badly damaged crops in Mexico. That suddenly made Florida tomatoes a tempting target, on a par with flat-screen TVs or designer jeans, but with a big difference: tomatoes are perishable.

“I’ve never experienced people targeting produce loads before,” said Shaun Leiker, an assistant manager at Allen Lund, a trucking broker in Oviedo, Fla., that was hit three times by the thieves. “It’s a little different than selling TVs off the back of your truck.”

Industry and insurance company officials said it appeared to add a new wrinkle to a nationwide surge in cargo theft.

In the case of the stolen tomatoes, the thieves seemed deeply versed in the ways of trucking companies and the produce industry. Transportation company executives and a law enforcement official said the criminals appeared to have set up a bogus trucking company with the intention of stealing loads of produce and other goods.

[…]

The thieves apparently began watching Web sites where brokers posted notices trying to connect trucking companies with loads they need carried.

In late March, they contacted Allen Lund. The broker carried out a standard series of checks, including verifying the company’s federal registration and its insurance coverage. Then it assigned the company to pick up a load of tomatoes from a shipper in Miami on Monday, March 28.

Over the next four days, working through Lund and three other freight brokers, E&A Transport picked up four more loads of tomatoes, a load of cucumbers and a load of frozen meat from shippers across Florida, including in the Miami area, Palmetto and Punta Gorda.

At each pick-up, a driver working for E&A showed up at the wheel of a tractor with a refrigerated trailer. The shippers loaded the pallets of tomatoes or the other goods into the trucks and the driver drove off. None of the loads got to their destinations.

The load of frozen meat, worth about $48,000, was picked up from a meatpacker north of Miami. It was bound for Salem, Ore. It is missing, too.

“This was definitely a smart organization,” said Mr. Holland, who was the broker on the load of meat. “They were smooth as silk.”

The thieves sought out loads headed for Detroit, Hartford, the Hunts Point market in New York, Los Angeles and Sacramento. Mr. Holland said that gave them time to carry out multiple thefts before the alarm was sounded, since in each case it would be from two to four days before the loads were due at their destinations. Brokers and shippers suspect the thieves had a buyer for the produce.

As sophisticated as this scheme was this is not the kind of crime you expect to see in a first world country. Food is becoming more valuable to thieves than the typical goods they seek out, which is not a good sign.

Anarchy in the U.K. – Coming to America April 4th

Left wing groups held a “protest” in London in which five police officers were hurt, one seriously. The “peaceful” demonstrates destroyed ATMs, attacked a hotel and were reported to have been throwing light bulbs filled with ammonia at people. It can be seen in many of the following videos that the English people – who the government disallows use of arms to and have no right of self-defense – are at the mercy of these crowds of thugs and communists. But British laws are frankly not that different than the laws in NYC or Chicago so the massive rallies Unions and their radical communist allies are planning for April 4th should be avoided at all costs by people in liberal run cities. Business owners should board up their windows and workers should call in sick.

From The Telegraph:

Here’s a list of cities the April 4th rallies will be held. I see the Bronx and Newark are on the list. Stay out of there. Asheville, NC has one planned and I’ve been told that anarchist plan to raise hell there. The cities on the list I’m familiar with all share something in common – British style gun and self-defense laws. That’s not a coincidence.

Anarchists and Socialists Disrupt Michigan Capitol

More leftist organized civil unrest which is spreading at alarming rates. From The Michigan Messenger:

Michigan State Police Capt. Gary Nix says troopers arrested 11 people Wednesday night during protests at the state Capitol.

All who were arrested will be charged with trespassing, and one faces a felony charge of obstructing a police officer. Nix said the details of the felony case were not completely clear but revolved around that person opening a bathroom window on the ground floor of the Capitol in a move to allow other protesters in.

Similar actions were taken in Wisconsin last week, where protesters opened windows of ground floor offices to allow protesters in.

The arrests came at the end of a day that saw thousands of protesters on the Capitol lawn as well as in the building protesting 40 bills which activists say unfairly target labor. There were also protests against Republican Gov. Rick Snyder’s budget proposals.

Those protests were dying down and most people had left when a group of about 100 entered the Capitol building in an attempt to keep it open, as was the original plan for Tuesday. Like the night before, when the police informed the protesters that they would have to vacate the building or face arrest, most of them peacefully left.

But when it came time to close the building, the doors were locked and that’s when the problems began.

Nicole Conaway, one of the protesters inside the building at that point, told the Messenger what happened:

“We took a vote and decided to try and stay as long as we could. There were people pounding on the windows wanting to get in so a group gathered up and tried to go towards the doors to let other people in. That’s when the police kind of slammed the leaders to the floor and took them away and arrested the people that were in the front.”

The smaller group of younger protesters then regrouped and had to decide what to do. Most of them decided to leave peacefully while a handful of them locked arms together and chose defiance.

[…]

At that point, the larger body of protesters began to surround the building, hoping to see those who were arrested be taken out of the building. When a group of police cars pulled up to the north entrance of the Capitol, the crowd amassed around that door, where uniformed officers stood inside, apparently with the arrested protesters.

One of their compatriots, wearing a kerchief over his face to hide his identity, pushed two large metal dumpsters in the way of the police cars, but he was not arrested. The police calmly stood inside the door of the north entrance, not reacting to what was going on and apparently discussing how to handle the situation.

Kudos to the police for defusing the situation and not taking the bait but it’s clear that the protesters are looking for their “Egypt moment” which may be in your town. Are you stocked up?

Wisconsin Businesses Targeted as Leftists Lose Control of Their Protesters

The Wisconsin chaos isn’t winding down at all but may be getting worse as random protesters are committing crimes for the cause, supposedly without the knowledge of rally organizers. While I don’t quite believe that narrative if it is true it means violence has become much more likely.

From 620 WTMJ:

TODAY’S TMJ4’s Diane Pathieu confirmed that doors at Chapman, Curtin, Mellencamp, Mitchell and Sabin Halls all had doors with superglue in the locks on Monday.

She said those doors were opened before 7:30 a.m. Monday morning.  No classes were affected.

Newsradio 620 WTMJ’s Jodi Becker confirmed that the doors to the Sendik’s on Downer Avenue were also glued shut.

UWM campus police believed it was a sign of protest, but organizers of a campus rally later Monday afternoon say they didn’t have anything to do with it.

College students are angry over what the bill may mean for them, and they are making their thoughts known in protests.

They were to hold a rally on Monday afternoon in reaction to Walker’s budget, which would split UWM and UW-Madison from the UW system.

The group organizing the rally said they want to preserve the UW system, secure funding for education and keep bargaining rights for labor unions.

They believe the budget will dramatically cut funding to schools and make things difficult for students to compete in the job market.

“Flexibility to us means that you’re firing our staff that are valuable to us, that provide the quality of education that we need,” protest organizer Omer Farooque told Pathieu.

Protesting budget cuts at a college by destroying college property is just the kind of asinine lack of forethought I expect from a college kid (no offense) but if the organizers of the rally were really unaware of this level of damage being done in their name it seems to me that they are not organizers at all but bystanders. Angry crowds with no direction and control are perhaps more dangerous then the angry mobs directed by these arm chair communists.

The Sendik’s mentioned has been targeted due to political contributions the owners made. From the Whitefish Bay Patch:

Despite threats of a boycott of Shorewood’s Sendik’s, store owner Anne Nehring said she hasn’t seen much backlash from shoppers- just support.

Two customers came in and told co-owner John Nehring, they were organizing a boycott of the store at 4027 N. Oakland Av.

She added John told them to get out of the store before they would give him a reason for the threatened boycott.

However, on Saturday, an e-mail surfaced threatening a boycott of Shorewood’s Sendik’s, citing the owner’s support of Milwaukee County Executive candidate Jeff Stone and that couple has been “giving funds to union-busters.” Stone voted in favor of the governor’s budget repair bill.

“I care very much about the community and the employees because they are my family,” Anne Nehring said. “People have told me they won’t stop shopping here.”

She said other customers say they drove out of their way to support the Shorewood location, which the Nehrings independently own. She added she is hurt by the threats coming from Shorewood residents, and their support of Gov. Scott Walker or Stone was done as individuals and not as the owners of Sendik’s.

“I should be able to do that, as an individual, without being punished,” she said of her support of the Republican party.

Another Sendik’s, 2643 N. Downer Ave., wasn’t so lucky, as the doors to the grocer were Superglued shut Monday. Anne Nehring said there hasn’t been any vandalism of her store.

The e-mail, first reported by 620 WTMJ’s Charlie Sykes, was reportedly sent from one David Weingrod, with an Milwaukee Area Technical College e-mail address, to apparent union representatives at the college and says that the grocer may face a boycott if the owners continue to support Stone.

“Please go to the Shorewood manager this weekend and tell him he needs to tell John Nehring that he either pulls his support from Jeff Stone or we will have a serious boycott of Shorewood,” the e-mail said.

Understand that boycotting these stores does nothing to further the goals of the union. This is just the left looking to destroy the livelihood of people they disagree with.

Which is why if you donate to campaigns you need to be ready to pay the price during periods of civil unrest. Frankly it’s only a matter of time until the “protesters” escalate to violence. There’s a Facebook page for the boycotters and reading through the posts you can see how unhinged many are. Here’s an example – thugs vandalized a bank that they had mistakenly thought supported Governor Walker. Turns out the bank supported no one. The answer to this revelation comes from communist goon Michael Flores who posted this nugget of wisdom:

Keep up the good work, news 15 just did a newscast on how M&I is not pro Walker, yet many of their employees are. Some people thought it would not affect them I guess we are all connected after all.

In other words all it takes for Michael and company to try to destroy your business is for you to have an employee or two who disagrees with them ideologically. If you think he’s an anomaly you’re kidding yourself.

Meanwhile the media is still ignoring the arrest of a union supporting goonette who confessed to making death threats against Republican, thugs videotaping the license plates of Scott Walker supporters, Wisconsin lawmakers having to skip public appearances due to credible death threats, Leftist terrorizing a female state senator’s at her private home and of course the Wisconsin Tea Party leader needing police protection due to death threats.

It’s easy to assume that this is all organized but the truth is that while the left approves of this they have already lost control of the crowds. People in Wisconsin – and in the next few months I’m betting most of the blue states – are going to need to make a decision. Stay and be targeted by leftist mobs or flee. Business owners can hope that things in Wisconsin will return to normal, but when their boycott doesn’t work firebombs will be next. The person videotaping plate numbers is planning on killing you. These protesters want to kill you. Wisconsin is gone, Maryland is next and any Republican or Conservative not shutting down their business and moving to a “red state” is gambling with his or her family and their well being.

Leave now and let Wisconsin collapse without it’s producers.

Death Threat Slipped Under WI Republican’s Office Door

More worrisome than the email threat because in this case the potential assassin was in the same building as the victim. According to the Boots and Sabers blog a note saying “The only good Republican is a Dead Republican” was slipped under Glenn Grothman’s office door today.

Reports coming in suggest that the mobs in Wisconsin are getting more and more violent. Tomorrow may be a bad one.
