Debbie Schlussel reports on a Wall Street Journal article sure to shock those of us familiar with Communist China’s policies toward religious groups who may pose a threat to their total control over society. After almost a decade of brutal government crackdowns on the Falun Gong and the emerging Christian community, the ruling party has made a rare concession to Islam and forbidden television stations to show images of pigs.
Even though they will be celebrating the Year of the Pig next month.
The Party has decided that they don’t want to offend Muslim sensibilities.
There are 20 million Muslims in red China compared to the 70 million Falun Gong practitioners.
The Chinese communist regime (CCP) is not afraid . Its a strategic plan to show that they will listen to Muslims so that in turn the Muslims will support whatever the CCP does to the rest of the world. They have something in common with the fanatical Muslims and that is to bring down the west, democracy, and all good religions.
The CCP will then have an angry race of anti US and anti democracy believers on their side fighting for them.
I guess i better clarify that I’m talking about the extreme Muslim fundamentalists not your average Muslim good guys of which there are many.
Maybe, but remember that the Muslim population we’re talking about are also seeking self-rule. China’s gesture of “good will” comes after a raid that killed about 20 extremists, so Pigs on T.V. or not it’ll be hard for the Chi-Com leadership to convince the Muslims that their all on the same side.
I think I do agree with you, upon reflection, that the Communists world wide would like to co-opt radical Muslim rage against the west, but I don’t see the Chinese allowing true religious freedom for Muslims in their country unless they felt unable to surpress them.
Also, remember that China’s support of Shite Iran will ultimately pit them against the rest of the Muslim world, and their smart enough to know that. Unless all of their Muslims are Iran supporting Shia, I think China’s looking at some serious problems down the line.
