How’s This for Green Shoots? Canadian Dollars Surpasses Greenback

Is this the recovery Obamunists claim “The One” has created?

April 6 (Bloomberg) — Canada’s dollar was worth more than the U.S. currency for the first time since July 2008 on the back of the rising price of crude oil and the prospect of higher interest rates.

Canada’s dollar, dubbed the loonie for the aquatic bird on the C$1 coin, last traded through parity with the greenback on July 22, 2008, 11 days after crude, the country’s biggest export, reached a record $147.27 a barrel. Oil traded near a 17- month high today.

“As we trade around it and move through it, the parity level becomes much less of a target and more of an accepted norm,” said Sacha Tihanyi, a currency strategist in Toronto at Bank of Nova Scotia, Canada’s third-largest bank. “Everything continues to be in line for Canadian dollar strength.”

The currency gained as much as 0.3 percent to C$99.88 per U.S. cents, and traded at C$1.0002 at 12:31 p.m. in Toronto, compared with from C$1.0022 yesterday. One Canadian dollar buys 99.98 U.S. cents.

The loonie traded on a one-for-one basis with the U.S. currency in September 2007 for the first time in three decades, capping a five-year run on the back of booming demand for the nation’s commodities.

I remember when the Canadian dollar reached parity with our currency it was a huge deal because it basically destroyed many small web entrepreneurs from Canada who had business models that negated the effects of low sales volume on online products by trading in the strong American dollars they made for the weak Lonnie. The parity put many a Canadian affiliate marketer out of business. I can’t remember when the U.S. Dollar was worth less than a loonie. Soon Americans will be able to set up affiliate programs in Canada then trade the Canadian bucks in for our debased dollars and live like kings in the new third world.

This weak Dollar policy of the Fed and the Obama administration is literally destroying our purchasing power. Not that the left cares. But when bread is $5 a loaf they will.
