Juggalo Jail Break?

juggalo-hatchet-man.jpg

Just kidding. Maybe. No offense to my Juggalo readers but when a man does something crazy with a hatchet it’s natural to wonder. Was this poorly planned jail break with a hatchet just a the result of a lone weirdo having too much time on his hands, or “clown love” gone wrong?

They report, you decide:

MENA, Ark. —  Sheriff’s deputies shot and killed a man who walked into a county jail wielding a hatchet and knives early Monday and demanded the inmates be released, authorities said.

Christopher Allen Anderson, 23, of Mena entered the Polk County jail shortly after midnight and demanded a female jailer leave her post, Polk County Sheriff Mike Oglesby said. Nearby deputies rushed in and urged Anderson to drop his weapons, Oglesby said. Anderson then asked the female jailer to release the inmates.

“He didn’t ask for any specific person,” Oglesby told The Associated Press. “He just told my female jailer that she needed to leave and they needed to let the people out of jail.”

Anderson refused to drop his weapons, so deputies called for a Mena police officer, who used a Taser on Anderson twice without a visible response, the sheriff said.

“He come back up again like it never phased him,” Oglesby said. “He was raring back to throw (the hatchet) at the officers and that’s when the guys shot him.”

Oglesby said he didn’t know how many times deputies shot Anderson. His body was taken to the state Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for an autopsy.

Shockingly his family claims he had a mental illness.

Lyme Disease Caused Terry Sedlacek to Kill?

lyme-disease.jpg

Reports are coming in that the man who murdered Pastor Fred Winters had Lyme Disease which some are positing is at the root of his crime.

I’m not sure I buy it. There are a lot of Lyme Disease sufferers out there and the streets aren’t clogged with wild-eyed murderers driven to kill.

Even though Lyme Disease can cause long term difficulties the National Institutes of Health lists the symptoms of untreated Lyme Disease as:

* Decreased concentration
* Memory disorders
* Nerve damage
* Numbness
* Pain
* Paralysis of the facial muscles
* Sleep disorders
* Visual disturbances

It should be noted that most people don’t experience all these symptoms. I think there are doctors who claim the disease may cause depression, but most depressed people don’t murder reverends in churches. There’s more to this story.

I’ll bet someone uncovers his Democratic Underground account within the next couple of days.

1 in Every 5 British Men Think Beating Women Acceptable

What could be influencing British men to take on such misogynist views? How could we possibly explain this?

From The Sun:

ONE in five adults thinks it is OK for a man to slap his wife or girlfriend, a shock survey reveals today.

They consider it acceptable if she merely wears “sexy clothes” in public.

Fourteen per cent reckon blokes are justified in lashing out if a partner is “nagging or moaning”.

And 10 per cent believe it is all right for them to hit a lover who flirts with another man.

Weird. I thought English people were civilized. it’s almost as if the poll was inundated by people who didn’t share the Enlightenment values of equality and liberty for all.

The sickening figures emerge in a Government survey on domestic violence — which quizzed both men AND women — to be published today.

Incredibly, they reveal that HALF the public think a woman is at least partly at fault for being raped if she does not clearly say “no”.

A third believe she is partly responsible if she is drunk.

And a quarter think she should take some of the blame if she wears sexy clothing.

Officials said the findings “shocked” Home Secretary Jacqui Smith.

They come as she unveils a groundbreaking crusade today to stop violence against women.

Yeah. Good luck with that.

Rush Limbaugh Doesn’t Speak for Me and Neither Do “Conservatives”

Patterico wrote a piece covering the Rush Limbaugh and now David Frum kerfuffle on Hot Air entitled David Frum Does Not Speak for Me Any More Than Rush Limbaugh Does which puts forward some very sensible points about allowing pundits of any stripe to be the end all of right leaning thought. Since this issue of who speaks for who in the GOP is burning across the right-o-sphere let me put forward my own two cents.

Neither David Frum or Rush Limbaugh “speak for me” or the Republican Party as a whole. We elected a leader to do that. Conservatives are one constituency of the party, but they are not the only constituency and they shouldn’t be. There is already a Conservative Party, and if Limbaugh’s fans are unhappy being in a party that also has large numbers of social moderates, Libertarians and people who don’t care if gays get married then they have a place to hang their hat.

Conservatives, especially Social-Cons, are frankly to the left of me and party faithful on more important issues than ones concerning public morality. On most issues Rush Limbaugh, David Frum and a large portion of the Hot Air comments section are left of me. I have never promoted the idea that they should be thrown out of the party because of it.

I believe in Republican principles that protect the minority from the tyranny of the majority, thus I support Gay marriage. I believe in a small government with a muscular foreign policy backed by a strong military. I believe in capitalism and economic freedom, which requires personal responsibility and fosters personal liberty.

I am a Classical Liberal who believes in the worth of the individual and his or her freedom, but I also don’t believe you have the right to destroy public order. So while I am disgusted that my local GOP has an anti-pornography stance written into its platform cribbed from Radical Feminism, I do support obscenity charges for ultra violent porn or simulated rape/pedophilia porn. I am to the right of most conservatives on this issue.

Where others on the right want to erect a fence to keep Mexican chaos from spilling over here, I believe we should militarily intervene in Mexico if our allies in the government can’t defeat the cartels. I believe we should be actively working to destabilize Communist and Islamist regimes as we did in the Reagan era. I believe we have a moral imperative to support Israel, Georgia, Ukraine and all the other freedom loving countries that are essential to peace in the future. I am to the right of most conservatives on this issue.

I believe in Pax Americana, and that we should export our ideals and values to the four corners of the world. I believe America is morally superior to every other country on the face of the earth. I shouldn’t be on the right of most conservatives on this, but I am.

So tell me how Rush Limbaugh, David Frum or any other talking head speaks for me? They don’t. Limbaugh is a great entertainer and helps rally the conservative base, but he doesn’t rally Republicans. Frum has been acting distastefully to say the least, but come 2010 I assume he’ll vote Democrat and leave anyway. Neither is as strong on national defense as I am but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room in the Party for us all, although Frum seems to want to stand outside the tent at this point.

I speak for myself from inside the tent of the Republican party and that’s how it should be.

I’m all for party discipline and being united, but the Rush Limbaugh cult of personality is not helping the Republican Party or the Conservative movement.

Ace has a post which points out how nonsensical, and destructive this fight is. Predictably Rush’s creepy personality cult is reacting badly.
