NYC Libraries Offer Terror Recruitment Propaganda

Yet another reason I’m glad to be out of New York. From the leftist rag Daily News:

hard-line Islamic books that justify violence against non-Muslim societies – including texts used as terrorist “recruiting tools” – are freely available in New York City public libraries.

A Daily News spot check found a book by an Islamic theorist who inspired Osama Bin Laden and terror Sheik Omar Abdel-Rahman, as well as others that promote the hatred of other religions and one with the misogynistic title: “Women Who Deserve to Go to Hell.”

Several of these texts can be found at the Brooklyn Public Library’s main branch, a mile from the Al Farooq mosque, where Rahman once inspired followers to try to blow up New York.

In the main stacks sits “Milestones,” a notorious work revered by Bin Laden and Rahman and penned by Seyyid Qutb, a Muslim Brotherhood member executed in 1966 for trying to overthrow the Egyptian government.

In its final report, the Sept. 11 Commission noted Rahman and Bin Laden’s attraction to Qutb: “Bin Laden shares Qutb’s stark view, permitting him and his followers to rationalize even unprovoked mass murder.”

An August NYPD report on the “homegrown threat” of terrorism contended Qutb believed “militant jihad had to be used … to overthrow non-Islamic governments and to bring about a ‘pure’ Islamic society.”

Qutb’s treatise is hardly the only hard-line book on library shelves in New York and Long Island, The News found.

The reference room of the Brooklyn main branch carries “Fundamentals of Tawheed.” In it, author Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips writes, “Un-Islamic government must be sincerely hated and despised for the pleasure of God.”

In the research section of the New York Public Library in Manhattan, The News found “Islamic Fatawa Regarding Women” and “Women Who Deserve to Go to Hell.”

“We have no intention to accuse women when we say that they will be a majority in hell,” wrote author Manssor Abdul Hakim.

The availability of such controversial books in public libraries points out the difficulties a society faces in balancing an aversion to censorship against the need to prevent terrorism.

“These are also recruiting tools,” said counterterrorism consultant Ilana Freedman of the Gerard Group International. Freedman said she was not suggesting banning books, “but without balance, without counterpoint, children cannot make informed decisions.”

Librarians said it is not up to them to decide what belongs on their shelves.

“We don’t censor what people read,” said Mary Haines, director of the South Country Public Library in Bellport, L.I., which just added “Milestones” to its collection.

Brooklyn Public Library spokeswoman Ruth Wagner said libraries have the responsibility to be inclusive, and “efforts are made to represent the widest possible diversity of views.”

I’ll bet they don’t include authors like Ayaan Hirsi Ali or Robert Spencer in their diverse collections. Hell, I was hard pressed to find Aleister Crowley in the new dhimmified NYC public library system which seems to bend over backward to not offend Islamic sensibilities but doesn’t care how offensive it is to carry Jihadist propaganda in the very shadow of the ruins of the World Trade Center.

A New York where the public libraries don’t care the nihilistic quasi-satanic ramblings of “the great beast” is one that has changed a great deal since I was a young imitator of Dashwood.

The Jihad has a foothold in America, and if it isn’t dislodged soon whole cities will fall to the Wahhabi death cult in the not too distant future.

Stillwell on Campus Anti-Semitism

Cinnamon Stillwell has a must read post up about the the much ignored hate crimes against Jews being perpetrated on college campuses with the tacit approval of the leftist intellectual elite:

We’ve all heard the refrain, “anti-Zionism doesn’t equal anti-Semitism” a million times from those desperate to convince themselves (Jews among them) that their single-minded obsession with and disproportionate condemnation of the world’s only Jewish state has nothing whatsoever to do with anti-Semitism. Others simply use that line as a fig leaf to try and conceal their outright opposition to Israel’s continued existence and, not coincidentally, the Jewish people.

But, as we’ve seen time and time again, the virulently anti-Zionist rhetoric that has been allowed to gain ground on America’s college campuses, both among faculty and student groups, tends to result in anti-Semitic sentiment and, often times, activity. The flyers hung all over campus at San Francisco State University in April 2002 displaying a Palestinian baby on a soup-can label and the words, “Palestinian Children Meat, slaughtered according to Jewish rites under American license” were a prime example. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Read the rest, but it shouldn’t shock you at all, colleges have been fostering anti-semitic myths for years, driven by an alliance between far left leaning “intellectuals” and young Islamists whose views of Jews owe more to American neo-Nazism than their own religion. The results of this sort of hate mongering ,which is spreading like a virus on the left side of the net, is tragic, disgusting and I’m afraid inevitable.

Orson Scott Card talked about this creeping academic/literary anti-semitism ages ago, but no one’s listening.

Priceless Monet Vandalized During French “Sleepless Night” Festival

The French Nuit Blanche festival is an all night post modernist happening that’s become a popular annual event for many revelers for whom a night of drunken debauchery among the dull, lifeless imaginings that passes for art is considered culture. Pretentious in that unsophisticated you find mostly on college campuses, it seems more a last grasp at potency from a flaccid culture deveined by Marxism than celebration of modern civilization.

Or as Tiberge of GalliaWatch so artfully puts it:

Virtual reality, gigantic parabolas, music from outer space, a mixture of real and digital images – everything to please the contemporary mentality. Since I wasn’t there, I should not talk about it, but I have the distinct feeling that this sort of thing is not for me. It sounds mindless, gimmicky and purely technical, although some of the visual aspects were undoubtedly “interesting”, in the way fireworks are interesting – a temporary charge and then silence.

Ultimately, the display of purely technical prowess becomes a unique form of violence, devoid as it is of a human message, of an interpretation of life, which is one of the purposes of art. This technical virtuosity has a deadening effect on the spirit, and perhaps that is what it is supposed to do. It’s the “circus” part of the “bread and circus” promise made by pagan governments to the people.

However, I may be too harsh, not having been there.

It should be no surprise to anyone to hear that in such an environment a group of drunken barbarians broke into a Museum and attacked the life affirming true art that is the antithesis of Nuit Blanche, and indeed modern art everywhere. From the AP:

Intruders entered the Orsay Museum early Sunday and punched a hole in a renowned work by Impressionist painter Claude Monet, “Le Pont d’Argenteuil,” the French Culture Minister said.

A surveillance camera caught a group entering the museum, located on the Left Bank of the French capital along the Seine River and housing a major collection of Impressionist artists like Monet.

An alarm sounded and the group left, but not before damaging the painting, an aide to Culture Minister Christine Albanel said by telephone.

No arrests were immediately made.

Albanel told France-Info radio that the painting could be restored, but she deplored what she said was an attack on “our memory, our heritage.”

“This splendid Monet painting (was) punched right in the middle,” the minister said with emotion.

According to the aide, a 10-centimetre tear was made in the Monet, perhaps with a fist. The official, not authorized to speak publicly of the matter, asked not to be named.

It was not immediately clear how many people were in the group that broke into the museum.

Monet led the 19th century Impressionist movement, experimenting notably with light and colour in works now deemed priceless.

While I tend to admire more the fashionable despair, as I heard it put, of the literary works of French authors like Baudelaire and Rimbaud, or the perverse wickedness of La Bas (the written word captures more emotion than the canvas ever can, in my opinion) than the admittedly genius compositions of the impressionists, I am saddened by the knowledge that the work of a great artist would be treated so disrespectfully in his own country.

Yet another way in which western civilization is being destroyed by the cancer from within.

Crappy Shows Crappy Writing Distracts Americans from Important Issues

Desperate Houswives second skankiest “actress” (pictured above with the first) was embroiled in a controversy when the writers of the Golden Girls spin off inserted a racist comment about the education level of Filipino doctors. Here’s a clip:

Why they used the Philippines as opposed to Tijuana which is the usual joke is beyond me, but I’ll assume it’s partly because the White Liberal Establishment has an ax to grind against minority groups that tend to be more conservative. On the other hand, who gives a s%&$ what the writers on Desperate Housewives think?

Michelle Malkin shares my sentiments:

There are a couple of interesting things about this story.

One: It raises the question of the Aggrieve-o-Meter. Some ethnic and racial groups are higher rated than others. It’s apparently politically correct in Hollyweird to deride the credientials of all Filipino doctors. But not other groups.

Unfair? Yes. Rotten double standards? Yes.

But instead of assimilating into the victim culture, it might be more effective for Filipinos to take a pass on the Jesse Jackson playbook and respond in a novel way.

Say, with humor:

Filipino doctors and nurses could stage a mock “Day Without a Filipino Medical School Graduate.”

Or charge patients who watch “Desperate Housewives” extra.

Or hound Eva Longoria at public appearances, picketing in their hospital gowns, shouting “Hey, hey, ho, ho, Desperate Housewives have got to go” while running a booth administering free anti-Hollywood vaccine shots.

Or do a Jericho-style protest and inundate the producers with copies of your med school diplomas, awards, and commendations.

Two: Can you imagine the uproar if the Desperate Housewives ever dared to make derogatory comments about illegal aliens? Imagine if they incorporated a criminal illegal alien into the plot line. Imagine the demands from MALDEF and LULAC for sensitivity training and open-borders rehab. Imagine.

Three: I find some of the e-mail I’m getting to be laced with hypocritical ethnic entitlement. Some Filipinos have seen fit to dismiss my ethnic heritage entirely and consider me “white” because of my politics and past criticism of the Philippines’ reckless decision to pay ransom for hostages taken by jihadis.

Now, after a stupid TV show insults Filipinos, they expect me to jump on the protest bandwagon with them automatically in ethnic solidarity.

Question: Where were you when far worse Filipino insults were being leveled? Just wondering.

Yeah, I feel the same way every time some Black guy who has called me a Zebra demands I vote Democrat or join them for some protest. Meh.

I’ve worked with nurses imported from the Philippines and found them as competent (or not) as anyone else. Of course I ran a Faith in Action program at a long term care facility so my judgment on their abilities applies mostly to how fast they filled out forms I needed, changed old peoples diapers and how scintillating the coffee talk was (about a 6 on a 1-10 scale) so I won’t weigh in on how great those Filipino’s degrees are or are not.

The real question is who’s watching this crappy show at all? If I want to watch self-indulgent baby boomer sluts pick up men in a futile attempt fill the void in the lives caused by living the “empowered” liberal lifestyle I’ll show up at TGIFriday’s on a Thursdays night.

And if I’m looking for some racy entertainment watching the Wisteria Lane sewing circle jerk doesn’t quite cut it. Listen, I’m no ageist. There’s plenty of hot 40-50 year olds out there, like Marg Helgenberger, but it seems like none of them bothered showing up at the D.H. casting call, so we are left with a semi-attractive Eva Longoria surrounded by what looks like an alligator skin wallet.

But I guess that’s popular enough that this “news” story has made it all the way to China. The Philippine government is asking for an official apology and Bryan Preston has come out to strongly imply he doesn’t quite feel strongly about this.

All in all time well spent.

Wisconsin Judge Thinks it’s Legal to Attempt to Lure Children for Sex in Public Parks

From The Chicago Sun-Times:

MADISON, Wis. — Prosecutors in Sheboygan County thought they had this one nailed.

After deliberating for just half an hour, a jury found 44-year-old Mitchell Pask guilty of trying to lure a 9-year-old girl to a park shelter for sex.

But after the verdict was read Wednesday, Judge Timothy Van Akkeren stepped in. In a rare move, he overturned it and found Pask, who was convicted of sexual assault in 1992, not guilty. The reason?

He said the park shelter wasn’t secluded enough to satisfy Wisconsin’s child enticement statute.

The reversal left prosecutors beside themselves Thursday. They spent the morning on the phone with the state Justice Department trying to line up an appeal and drumming up media coverage.

”I’m like, come on,” District Attorney Joe DeCecco said. ”We convinced the jury this was a good case. We were going to get a sexual offender off the streets. It’s disappointing. It’s frustrating. I’m upset.”

Pask’s attorney, George Limbeck, said the shelter consists of four poles and a roof and lies just yards from a constantly traveled road.

”The judge did what was right. The judge in essence followed the law, given the facts of this case,” Limbeck said.

A ruling overturning a jury verdict in a criminal case is fairly rare in Wisconsin but does happen, said Marquette University law professor Janine Geske. ”I’m sure it was a tough decision for him and not one he relished making, but that’s what judges are sworn to do — uphold the constitution and the law,” she said.

According to a criminal complaint, the 9-year-old girl was in a Sheboygan’s Worker’s Park with her friends this past June. Pask walked by, carrying a beer and smoking a cigarette.

He remarked ”Look at those sexy little salty girls” and told the 9-year-old he had candy for her. He then motioned her to follow him to the shelter. The girl refused, and police captured Pask in the park.

He was charged with child enticement, a felony punishable by up to 25 years in prison.

But the wording of Wisconsin’s child enticement statute is explicit, prohibiting someone from luring a minor into a vehicle, building, room or secluded place.

So, because this pervert might have gotten caught while savagely raping a 9 year old the judge throws out the jury verdict. Correct me if I’m wrong but even if the park shelter was “just yards” from a trail where people are, the perp thought it was secluded enough to try to lure a little girl so it was in his mind secluded. The intent was there and the shelter must have at least semi-secluded because Pask thought he could take a girl of nine there and drink beers with and do who knows whatever else without raising suspicions.

This seems like another case of some judge, likely a pervert himself or at least sympathetic to perverts, looking for an excuse to let this child rapist walk. Maybe he wants to get on the O’Reilly Factor?
