New England Journal of Medicine: One-Third of Doctors Will Leave Medicine if Health Care Reform Passes

Uh-oh:

(CNSNews.com) – Nearly one-third of all practicing physicians may leave the medical profession if President Obama signs current versions of health-care reform legislation into law, according to a survey  published in the latest issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.

The survey, which was conducted by the Medicus Firm, a leading physician search and consulting firm based in Atlanta and Dallas, found a majority of physicians said health-care reform would cause the quality of American medical care to “deteriorate” and it could be the “final straw” that sends a sizeable number of doctors out of medicine.

But the news gets worse if a public option is included in the legislation:

More than 29 percent (29.2) percent of the nearly 1,200 doctors who responded to the survey said they would quit the profession or retire early if health reform legislation becomes law. If a public option were included in the legislation, as several liberal Senators have indicated they would like, the number would jump to 45.7 percent.

Better make your medical appointments now kids. When the Democrats ram through their “health reform” you’re going to be waiting years to see a doctor.

Why Does the Department of Education Need Twenty-Seven Tactical Entry Shotguns?

The Department of Education has put in an order for twenty seven Remington 870 shotguns in 12 gauge with 14″ barrels and Knoxx adjustable stocks. The order form implies that these new procurements will be comparable with an existing armory:

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) intends to purchase twenty-seven (27) REMINGTON BRAND MODEL 870 POLICE 12/14P MOD GRWC XS4 KXCS SF. RAMAC #24587 GAUGE: 12 BARREL: 14″ – PARKERIZED CHOKE: MODIFIED SIGHTS: GHOST RING REAR WILSON COMBAT; FRONT – XS CONTOUR BEAD SIGHT STOCK: KNOXX REDUCE RECOIL ADJUSTABLE STOCK FORE-END: SPEEDFEED SPORT-SOLID – 14″ LOP are designated as the only shotguns authorized for ED based on compatibility with ED existing shotgun inventory, certified armor and combat training and protocol, maintenance, and parts.
The required date of delivery is March 22, 2010.

Unless you’re willing to pay a hefty “tax” for owning restricted weapons (sorry liberals, there’s no such thing as an assault weapon ban) you’re not legally allowed to own a shotgun with a barrel under 18 inches. But short barrels are often used by military and law enforcement for entry teams who need small but powerful weapons for urban assaults and house to house fighting. If you were going to kick in the front door of an apartment and wanted to carry something with more knockdown power than a pistol (or a carbine chambered in a pistol caliber) but that would be easy to maneuver in the tight confines of a hallway or foyer, a short barreled shotgun fits the bill.

But why does the Department of Education need a shotgun seemingly designed for kicking in doors anyway? Are they finally going to crack down on homeschooling? Are student restrooms so out of control that sweep teams need to be sent in?

Even if you concede that the Department of Education needs shotguns, why are they not ordering regular cruiser models? Why do they need to be tactical models? Do they already have an existing inventory and are adding to it? If so, why does the Department of Education have an inventory of firearms? It’s like the feds are trying to start conspiracy theorizing.

Terrorism Ruled Out in Connecticut Energy Plant Explosion

I lived in Middletown for a while and thought this could go either way. Last time I was in Middletown the Wesleyan University campus was inundated with signs for a pro-Palestinian protest and there were various Islamist fliers posted around town. MS-13 had also made inroads into the immediate area and the two major cities Middletown sits between, Hartford and New Haven, both have large A.N.S.W.E.R. contingents as well as active radical environmental groups. I was happy, though a bit surprised, that this wasn’t terrorism but I’m saddened that this tragedy hit a town I am quite fond of:

The BBC has videos from eyewitnesses. AFP puts the toll at five dead and twelve injured. The Washington Post has a short report.

Keep them in your prayers.

Heroic 11-Year-Old Saves Mother from Mexican Home Invasion Gang

This story is a couple of weeks old but this little Texan’s awesomeness is timeless:

Three men are being held for a Palmview home invasion where an 11-year-old boy was shot defending his mother.

Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office deputies told Action 4 News that it happened off Minnesota Road and 8 Mile Line between Palmview and Mission around 12:30 a.m. Friday.

The homeowner said she and her 11-year-old son were in bed when she heard banging coming from the front door.

She got up to check and she saw two Hispanic males men wearing masks and armed with handguns walking towards her.

She quickly closed the bedroom door but one of the men allegedly tried to force it open.

The masked man kept telling her to open the door and she would not open the door.

The woman told deputies that the home invaders shot through the door and hit her son on the left hip area.

Her son had a 22 cal. Rifle and shot back at the alleged robbers.

The woman waited, opened the door, saw that the suspects were gone and called 911.

Deputies found blood all over the floor and noted that the front door had been knocked down.

Paramedics took the woman’s 11-year-old son to the McAllen Medical Center where he’s listed in stable condition.

But deputies told Action 4 News that a man with a gunshot wound to his neck ended up at the same hospital.

Investigators said nothing was taken from the home and that the wounded suspect was taken to a hospital in San Antonio for further treatment. He remains under guard.

Criminal charges are expected to be filed against him, if he survives.

Deputies said Border Patrol agents detained two Mexican nationals who were found in the area.

The two men are being questioned about the home invasion.

U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials told Action 4 News that they have filed immigration detainers against the two men.

I don’t know (or care) if the guy who got shot survived. This kid is a hero though. No doubt he saved his mother from a brutal rape or murder since the men could have grabbed valuables and ran when the woman tried to barricade herself in her bedroom. Instead they went straight for her. He saved his mother’s life and likely his own.

The story seems to indicate that after the incident the Mexican nationals were going home. Is our border so insecure that criminals cross the border specifically to terrorize American families?

The Duke University/UNC Anti-Terror Report is Sinister Piffle

Christopher Hitchens has never done a greater service to mankind than when he coined the phrase sinister piffle. He used it to describe the loathsome anti-Semitism of Cindy Sheehan back when the media gave her a platform for her “anti-war” protests but I have always thought that it was a turn of phrase that deserves to be added to the lexicon of punditry. Sheehan’s sinister piffle was nonsense that could have (and I would argue did) have serious consequences for millions of people when taken seriously. Her efforts to mainstream anti-Semitism (going so far as to have White nationalists involved in her protest, a fact the complicit media ignored) have helped foster the environment of Jew hatred we have today.

Similarly, the recent report released by what we could be excused to have assumed to be the freshman social studies class from Howard Zinn high school (located in central Berkeley between the John Philips father/daughter play center and the Jerry Garcia memorial medical marijuana dispensary) but was in actuality the product of a joint venture between what are believed to be professional researchers from Duke University and U.N.C. is sinister piffle. Anti-Terror Lessons of American Muslims is a poorly researched piece of Jihadist apologia which makes a number of spurious claims and concludes that the threat of terrorism is overblown. It implicitly recommends Americans simply stop worrying about Militant Islam, because Militant Islam is not a threat to Americans.

Piffle! And sinister piffle at that, because unless we believe that the authors of this dull and hamfisted regurgitation of the great Progressive Articles of Faith (The West is always wrong, the “other” is always right, violence is always a reaction to Western aggression) are simply so immersed in the raw post-modernist sewage of academic Marxism the only explanation for a report that so plainly distorts the facts about radicalization and the threat of terror by American Muslims is that it’s propaganda designed to cover for those same terrorists.

One of the most extraordinary claims made by the authors (David Schanzer, Charles Kurzman and Ebrahim Moosa) is that homegrown extremism is an exaggerated threat. They can make that claim because by their own admission they do not count fund-raising or Jihad enabling activities as terrorism and they don’t term any person or group radicalized until they’ve been proven to have participated in violence. They also seem to think the 13 dead and 30 wounded soldiers at Ft. Hood is no big deal.

Understand that this report is claiming that Muslims who call for the death of gays are not radicals until they actually kill one. Rifqa Berry’s parents are not radicals until she’s dead. Those that support the aims and efforts of Al-Qaeda or Hezbollah or any other militant Islamist group aren’t radicals even if they are financially supporting those groups’ murderous efforts. No one’s a radical until the blood flows and the bullets fly. No one is a threat until they have already made good on one.

The three authors’ agenda is as transparent as their attempts to rewrite history with their talk of all the efforts Muslims have been making to de-radicalize young men. This is radical politics disguised as shoddy academics and Duke and U.N.C. should be absolutely ashamed to have their names attached to such sinister piffle.

The Investigative Project on Terrorism has a in-depth debunking of the more outrageous claims, and points out that the paper credits known radical organizations as sources including the Islamic Circle of North America which is the group from which the American Muslims caught in Pakistan were spawned.
