Hard to argue with her on this one. In response to Nancy Pelosi’s “Republicans are bloodthirsty warmongers” slander Marsden wrote a post asking if it wasn’t more likely that Republicans loved bikinis. Specifically the right of women to wear bikinis, not burquas:

I wonder if it ever occurred to Nancy that maybe the GOP just likes the idea of standing up for the rights of women around the world to wear a bikini, rather than a hijab? If she doesn’t like the title “War on Terror”, then maybe she’ll dig “Bikini Crusades”? Because that’s where it will hit home hardest if Islamofascism takes over.

Or maybe you’d appreciate it more if I put it this way: The lack of thongery would really put a damper on your pride parades over there in San Francisco.

Well played and I agree, something that the left seems to gloss over in all this is that if we allow Islamists to achieve their goals abroad it will lead to the widespread slavery of women. Iraq and Afghanistan are, as of now, second only to Israel in women’s rights. The Taliban and Al-Qaeda are attacking those gains. We must acknowledge the western superiority to Islam in our acceptance of the truth of gender equality.

A powerful symbol for both sides, Western Liberals (in the classical sense) and Islamists, is the bikini. For us it represents the ultimate in freedom, the belief that women can wear whatever they want without regard for what others may think. For Islamists it represents disdain for Islamic male superiority and the usurping of Muslim men’s positions as custodians of women’s sexuality. They fear women’s sexual liberation as a first step toward women’s liberation, thus what to we Republicans is a celebration of beauty and sexuality is sinister and evil to the Islamist:

The American feminist establishment will remain silent, or worse take the Islamists’ side in this argument. So we Republicans will carry their water, well, at least provide the lion’s share of assistance to the efforts of real feminists like Tammy Bruce and Camille Paglia, and we should thank Rachel Marsden for recognizing our efforts.

But she’s missed one point, we don’t just like bikinis, we enjoy mini skirts and assorted lingerie:
