The Times Destroys NightJack Blog by Stripping Blogger of Anonymity

NightJack was a no holds barred crime blog from England that reported from the front lines of English policing. The man who ran the blog needed his anonymity to write honestly about the streets of England, if for nothing else, because England will prosecute and attempt to jail bloggers who offend Muslim sensibilities.

The Times of London didn’t much care for an Orwell award winning blogger reporting the truth about England, so they set out to destroy NightJack by publishing his real name and thus opening up the possibility of his career being ruined and perhaps his life being threatened. NightJack tried to get a court injunction to stop them and the court ruled against him. Now NightJack has been deleted, Detective Constable Richard Horton has been exposed and The Times Online is reveling in their power to destroy lives:

In a landmark decision, Mr Justice Eady refused to grant an order to protect the anonymity of a police officer who is the author of a blog called NightJack.

The officer, Richard Horton, 45, a detective constable with Lancashire Constabulary, had sought an injunction to stop The Times from revealing his name.

In April Mr Horton was awarded the Orwell Prize for political writing, but the judges were not aware that he was revealing confidential details about cases, some involving sex offences against children, that could be traced back to genuine prosecutions.

His blog, which gave a behind-the-scenes insight into frontline policing, included strong views on social and political issues, including matters of “public controversy,” the judge said.

The officer also criticised and ridiculed “a number of senior politicians” and advised members of the public under police investigation to “complain about every officer . . . show no respect to the legal system or anybody working in it.”

Mr Horton has now deleted his website and received a written warning from his force.

Read the rest, it’s an interesting piece. I am not a supporter of the “right to anonymity” people throw around. But The Times clearly went out of their way to target and silence this blogger. When American papers realize they can do the same thing it will have an equally chilling effect.

China to be Given Financial Aid by U.S. as Part of Climate Change Agreement

So the U.N.’s embrace of Global Warming reaches its endgame: the bankruptcy and dissolution of the United States. From CNS News:

(CNSNews.com) – U.S. Special Envoy for Climate Change Todd Stern said that there was “no question” that China would receive both financial and technological assistance from the United States as part of upcoming climate change talks to be conducted in Copenhagen, Denmark.

“This is a developing country issue, which includes China,” Stern told reporters on Friday.  “I think there is no question that a Copenhagen agreement is going to have to include mechanisms to provide the financial flows and technological assistance to developing countries.”

The Copenhagen talks are part of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC), the U.N. body responsible for negotiating the Kyoto Protocol and its successor treaty, negotiation of which will be finalized in Copenhagen this December.

China, called a developing country by the U.N., is being given a special definition by U.S. negotiators who want any final agreement to reflect that despite its vast swaths of undeveloped rural countryside, China is rapidly urbanizing, boasting fully modern cities. Stern outlined this split personality, saying China was “both” a developed and a “developing” country.

“I’ve said on a number of occasions now that it’s accurate that China is in effect both a developed and a developing country at this point,” said Stern. “They are developed in some of their major cities, Beijing and Shanghai, but they’re still developing and still quite poor in a large part of the countryside.”

Regardless, the United States will be spreading the wealth China’s way, helping them to meet whatever final carbon emissions reduction goals come out of Copenhagen.

“It [assistance] needs to focus both on mitigation – the means of producing your CO2 emissions, putting you on a low carbon path – and adaptation, which has to do with dealing with the effects of climate change that has already happened,” said Stern, then, “yes, there will need to be those [assistance] mechanisms.”

Those mechanisms will no doubt include some sort of payments to China annually from a country whose economy is already crumbling. We can’t afford this treaty and the U.N. knows it.

A Short Clarification of My Stance on Iran

I stated recently that people stroking themselves over how they were supporting the oppressed people of Iran by “mircobloging” was pretty pathetic, and I stand by that.

But then this lefty supporter of the mullahs of Iran piggybacked on my post in an attempt to prove supporting Iran was “chickenhawk” nonsense. That’s not what I meant and not what I believe.

Supporting Iran is great, but the Iranian people will be freed only when the Mullahs and their supporters are dead. I hope these protests lead to an overthrow and the gallows for the Islamic Imperialists who have crushed and destroyed the Persian culture, a culture that goes back thousands of years. But unless you can show me a way to ship guns, ammo and some willing bodies over there I just don’t see that happening. Obama will allow the heavily armed theocratic government to massacre anyone they want, just as Jimmy Carter allowed Islamists to destroy the Shah’s modern government where women held high level positions in the military and government and the Persian people enjoyed true rule of law.

Obama’s a coward who will not allow us to truly help. He will not allow us to ship weapons and ammunition to Iranian revolutionaries. He will not allow Americans to go help defend freedom as they did in the Spanish Civil War. We modern people have little choice but to wallow in nanny state impotence so I applaud those who stand in emotional solidarity with the people dying for freedom in Iran’s blood soaked streets even now. I just don’t want people to kid themselves that there is anything they can do to help the Iranians aside from providing some small level of moral support.

The U.N. doesn’t care what happens, nor does Obama. So getting the reports of atrocities out may be gratifying but ultimately meaningless. Pray for the Iranians and their struggle, and support the Iranians in protest.

But don’t kid yourselves. Iran is on its own. I’m not arguing that this is O.K., I’m arguing that we need to change that.

Not Fascist at All: France Seeks Dissolution of Scientology

I’m not a fan of the “Ethical Culture” cult but I don’t claim people don’t have a right to join them. France however is now claiming to have the authority to make people’s religious choices for them. Anonymous may be happy but anyone who thinks people have a right to live their lives without the government making choices for them will be appalled:

PARIS (Reuters) – A French prosecutor on Monday recommended a Paris court should dissolve the Church of Scientology’s French branch when it rules on charges of fraud against the organization.

Registered as a religion in the United States, with celebrity members such as actors Tom Cruise and John Travolta, Scientology enjoys no such legal protection in France, where it has faced repeated accusations of being a money-making cult.

The Church’s Paris headquarters and bookshop are defendants in a fraud trial that began on May 25. Summing up her views on the case, state prosecutor Maud Coujard urged the court to return a guilty verdict and dissolve the organization in France.

The Church of Scientology denies the fraud charges and says the case against it violates freedom of religion.

A ruling is expected within months.

French state prosecutors had previously resisted the idea of an outright dissolution of Scientology in the country.

If the court follows the prosecutor’s recommendation, Scientology could appeal and the verdict would be suspended.

The trial centers on complaints made in the late 1990s by two former members who spent huge sums on Scientology courses and “purification” sessions.

Maybe if France had a free and fair press (like we used to have in America) people in France could see the evidence that Scientology is a scam and decide for themselves. But the French have found a religion it’s safe to persecute and the authorities can take out their frustrations on Scientologists secure in the knowledge there will be no riots.

Meanwhile, how much justice is there for the Muslim gang that kidnapped and tortured a Jew to death?
