Super Gonorrhea Update

The Feds are still struggling with the spread of drug resistant STDS while our urban dwelling liberals and leftist “activists” do their best to ensure these new strains take out as many people as possible. From The Washington Times:

Faced with evidence that anti-gonorrhea drugs are slowly losing their effectiveness, the federal government is poised to announce new treatment guidelines later this week to combat the long-dreaded sexually transmitted disease.

This action will be one of many taken by public health workers to address the alarming scenario of a common, sexually transmitted infection becoming resistant to their very drugs that had halted its spread so effectively over the past 80 years.

Antibiotic-resistant gonorrhea is “a major global threat,” Dr. Edward W. Hook III told a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) webinar in May.

If this resistance grows, it “could take us back more than 60 years, to a time when treatments for gonorrhea were not reliably effective and when there were no alternative therapies,” said Dr. Hook, a professor of medicine and epidemiology at the University of Alabama and director of the Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Control Program for the Jefferson County Department of Health.

Already, doctors are using higher doses of antibiotics to treat gonorrhea, and cases of complete treatment failure have been reported in Europe, Asia and Canada, he noted.

Complete treatment failure means just what it sounds — “that you have a chronic, active, ulcerative, infectious disease,” said William Smith, executive director of the National Coalition of STD Directors.

Ulcerative? Yeah untreated Gonorrhea not only causes pain and puss filled discharge but lesions that can erupt all over the body. And people now will have those symptoms forever.

Anyone for settling down with one partner?

Stoned in Dearborn Link Roundup

A group of Christians staged a nonviolent demonstration at the annual Arab International Festival in Dearborn in June and were stoned by festival attendees. The police asked the demonstrators to leave instead of protecting them against the violence.

I originally came across this story at the Detroit Free Press. The author, Niraj Warikoo, put the usual Freep spin on the truth not mentioning the violent reaction of the Muslims, though he does mention some water bottles and pop cans being thrown and that “one boy then spilled some water on the missionary.”

I responded with this comment and a link to a video:

“I don’t support this Christian group but as per usual the Freep doesn’t tell the whole story. Here is another article with video. You can clearly see that the Christians are standing around holding signs and it’s the Muslims who start throwing things. http://dearborn.patch.com/articles/protestors-seek-to-disrupt-arab-international-festival#video-10336278”

That video I originally posted in my comment doesn’t show the reaction of the “religion of peace” as well as this one.

[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dBaTVwIJH-E]

And surprise, I was called a bigot by a woman who left this comment with all the usual liberal name calling, condescension and obfuscation you would expect:

“It’s called “ethnic intimidation”, darling! How *else* are people supposed to react?  Furthermore, bigot, those perverts are about as peaceful as a pack of wild animals. Their hate was out there for all to see, precious! I wonder if you’d feel the same if people like them used the same tactics against YOUR church!”

Why is it that liberal women can never see how anti-feminist their language is to conservative women?  And not only does this mental giant seem to assume I’m a Christian, but she clearly has a problem with reading comprehension as I stated in the beginning of my comment that I don’t support the Christian group. I was simply calling out the Freep for not stating all the facts.

I appreciate that no one wants people telling them they’re going to hell at their celebration. But this was a public event and the Christians had a right to their demonstration as long as they were nonviolent. I don’t go to church but I remember Christians making similar statements at a new-age/Pagan convention in the Metro Detroit area many years ago. The attendees yelled back. They didn’t stone the Christians. They knew American law, which is something that us so-called bigots are considered egregiously hateful for expecting Muslims in this country to know and respect as well.

In fact, there have been plenty of times I’ve peacefully dealt with Christians stating their opinion, sometimes even hatefully so.  I didn’t even punch a Jehovah’s Witness chick who tried to stuff pamphlets in my car window while I was pulling out of my parking spot.  And one might even consider that stepping over the line of sharing her opinion into the area of messing with my private property.  But I’m not crazy violent so I just drove away.  No stones were involved.

The Blaze has more video of the stoning.  American Thinker and Front Page Magazine have more on this story. Jihad Watch and Pamela Geller at Atlas Shrugs have more info on the civil rights suit being filed by the Christians.

E.T. Williams of Whatever Happened to Common Sense on YouTube asks why the media is silent on this and we all know the answer.

Prescription Drugs Kill 6200% More People than Homicidal Shootings Every Year

Yet the urban liberal elite aren’t clamoring to cut off supplies of Xanax, Oxycontin and other dangerous, addictive drugs. Of course the meaningless urbanized existence relies on chronic drug use to keep people from figuring out that living in unsustainable cities, and basing an entire economy around catering to city dwellers who produce nothing, is morally wrong.

Mike Adams, the “health ranger” at Natural News wrote this excellent article pointing out the absurdity of our modern culture especially when it comes to outrage over gun violence:

In the aftermath of the Aurora, Colorado Batman movie theater shooting, President Obama chimed in on the gun control debate yesterday, saying, “Every day, the number of young people we lose to violence is about the same as the number of people we lost in that movie theater. For every Columbine or Virginia Tech, there are dozens gunned down on the streets of Chicago or Atlanta…”

What he didn’t say, however, is that every day 290 people are killed by FDA-approved prescription drugs, and that’s the conservative number published by the Journal of the American Medical Association.

As no one seems to believe these numbers are real, I’ll quote the source: The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Vol 284, No 4, July 26th 2000, authored by Dr Barbara Starfield, MD, MPH, of the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health.

That study, which is twelve years old — and drug deaths have risen considerably since then — documents 106,000 deaths per year from the “adverse effects” of FDA-approved prescription medications.

To reach this number from outbreaks of violent shootings, you’d have to see an Aurora Colorado Batman movie massacre take place every HOUR of every day, 365 days a year.

If a massacre of people using slugs of lead is bad, why is a massacre of people using deadly chemicals perfectly acceptable?

To be sure some of the article is crazed hippydom that even a cranky newly minted crunchy-con like me finds hard to take but his point is a good one. I’m not seeing much from people on the epidemic of oxy addicts turned loose on our streets – enabled by pill pushing doctors who write out scripts for powerful, addictive narcotics at the drop of a hat. That’s way more dangerous than my guns.

Michigan House Votes to Repeal Right-Infringing Handgun Requirements by 2-1 Margin

Success! Even with attempts by some lawmakers to use the Trayvon Martin case in Florida to pander to anti-gunners in our state, the Michigan House has voted 72-36 in favor of repealing the permit-to-purchase and registration requirements for handguns. Instead, these outdated practices will be replaced by using the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System which made these requirements obsolete in 1998.

I outlined some of the main changes that will occur in a previous post, but two points of interest are (via NRA-ILA):

  • “Repeal the state requirement to seek police permission to purchase a firearm by traveling to a local police station and obtaining a permit to purchase.
  • Repeal the requirement to register a completely legally purchased and owned firearm by a law-abiding citizen to be registered with the government through the police.”

Now the bill goes to the Senate. Visit the Michigan Senate page to find contact info for your senator to urge the support of HB 5225.

Stratfor Has a Great Article on the Phoenix Serial Bomber

Among other things it has this section describing the different kinds of serial bombers. Not all are “terrorists” as we envision them:

Serial bombmakers vary greatly in skill, motivation and affiliation. Most bombmakers involved with militant groups are, in effect, serial bombers, especially when they are exceptional bombmakers such as those we discussed in the May 17 Security Weekly. These include individuals such as Abu Ibrahim of the Black September Organization, Yahya Ayyash of Hamas or al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula’s Ibrahim Hassan Tali al-Asiri. Such individuals typically create hundreds, if not thousands, of innovative explosive devices for their groups’ terrorist operations over a span of many years.

However, not all serial bombmakers are associated with a militant group. There is a long history of individuals who have operated as serial bombers. From 1940 to 1956, George Metesky, who was known in the media as “The Mad Bomber,” deployed 33 IEDs, 22 of which detonated, and injured 15 people. Metesky was angry after being denied disability pay following an injury he sustained while working for Consolidated Edison, Inc. After planting two explosive devices in 1940, Metesky observed a self-imposed moratorium on bombing attacks during World War II. He deployed the bulk of his devices — pipe bombs — from 1951 to 1956. He attacked not only Consolidated Edison, but also theaters, the New York subway system, the New York Public Library, Radio City Music Hall, Grand Central Station and other targets. Metesky was arrested after Consolidated Edison personnel managers identified him based on details he provided in threatening letters.

One of the most famous serial bombers in recent years was Theodore Kaczynski, also known as the “Unabomber.” UNABomb was an FBI case name that stood for “University and Airline Bomber” — Kaczynski’s first targets. From May 1978 until April 1995, Kaczynski deployed 16 IEDs that killed a total of three people and injured 23 more. Like the Metesky case, it was Kaczynski’s writings that allowed him to be identified, though it was Kaczynski’s brother who identified him for authorities. As demonstrated in his manifesto, titled Industrial Society and Its Future (1995), Kaczynski was motivated by a fear of technology. He called for a revolution against modern society’s “industrial-technological system.”

Eric Rudolph first came onto the scene in July 1996 when a bomb he planted in Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park detonated during the 1996 Summer Olympics. Rudolph also conducted IED attacks against abortion clinics in Atlanta in 1997 and in Birmingham, Ala., in 1998 and against a gay bar in Atlanta in 1997. Rudolph’s IED attacks killed two and wounded more than 100. Rudolph was motivated by his extreme anti-abortion and anti-homosexual convictions.

Not all serial bombers have intended to kill their targets. From 1994 to 2006, an unidentified bombmaker known by the media as the “Italian Unabomber” planted dozens of small IEDs in various locations in Italy. While many of the IEDs were pipe bombs, the Italian bombmaker also concealed IEDs in cans of tomato paste, cigarette lighters, church votive candles and in items intended to target children, such as bottles of soap bubbles, colored markers and Kinder Eggs. The size of many of these devices suggests that the bombmaker hoped to maim and terrorize his victims but not kill them. A suspect was arrested in the Italian case but was later acquitted, and the case has never been officially solved. Since many serial bombmakers, such as Metesky and Kaczynski, go through periods when they suspend bombmaking activity, it is possible that the Italian bombmaker is still at large and will attack again.

We have to be careful in situations like this to not automatically assign political motives. The whole article is worth your time so check it out.
